A luxury mobile camp following the Great Migration

Forget what you know about camping: sleeping under canvas in the Serengeti will be a novel experience. Exquisite meals, opening your tent in the morning to an awakening bush – together with the comfort of warm showers, flush toilets, fluffy beds, chandeliers, crystal, silverware and even a private butler to cater for all your needs. This is why you want to be at &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas.

Attempting to anticipate the movements of the Great Migration, the luxurious semi-permanent tented camp moves around the Serengeti trying to get you within range of the massive herds. Providing you with the opportunity to experience seasonal sightings of the Grumeti and Mara River crossings to observing the wildebeest calving at Ndutu.

Using only private sites, the mobile camp is entirely intimate and exclusive, featuring just nine spacious safari tents (including one tent especially appointed for families). The guest areas include a dedicated sitting and dining tent, which provides deep sofas from which to contemplate the vastness and peace of the surrounding landscape. Custom made Indian rugs and polished brass samovars add a touch of elegance and romance.

Although this tented Serengeti camp is mobile and moves every couple of months, it is amazing what the staff pulls off in terms of services, quality and mouth watering cuisine. There are even comfortable tents for dining, pre-dinner cocktails or just whiling away the time between game drives. Wake up and revitalize by taking a steaming hot shower. Plant yourself on the shaded veranda with your morning coffee and enjoy the smaller details of bush life.

Activities at &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas

Get front row seats to the Great Migration in some of the most remote and beautiful corners of the Serengeti. &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas can offer outstanding Serengeti safari experience with game drives tailored to suit your preference, with a choice between shorter, twice-daily drives or one full-day game drive, with a stop for a picnic lunch. They carefully plan the game drives to anticipate the progress of the Great Migration, so you should not have to travel too far to see the vast herds. However, if the Migration has moved off, or the dramatic river crossings are in progress, you may spend more time on the vehicle to maximise your chances of seeing this incredible phenomenon. No need to panic (worry) when the Migration herds are not within easy reach with game drives setting off in search of the exceptional resident game. As all game drives are conducted in the Serengeti National Park, so off-roading and night drives are not permitted.

Apart from the game drives, &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas has much more to offer; float above the Serengeti in a hot-air balloon, specialised photograph tour where you will try to capture the essence of the Great Migration with your camera. Or explore other parts of Tanzania and take a peek back in time and explore the earliest evidence of the existence of our human ancestors by visiting the world famous archaeological site of Olduvai Gorge. From here you can move on to the Shifting Sands, a remarkable dune of volcanic ash appearing completely out of place on the short grassy plains. It is even possible to visit the wondrous Lake Victoria. Offering a gloriously diverse range of exciting things to do, you have a full day, at your leisure, to engage with thrilling wildlife, embark on an exciting fishing safari in a traditional canoe, and catch your own scrumptious giant Nile perch for dinner, or stroll along the lakeshore marvelling at the beautiful expanse. Please note that all these experiences will have to be pre-booked. Interested? Just send us an email and we will provide more information.

Tripadvisor comments &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas

We stayed at &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas for three nights at the beginning of March 2020. This was our first &Beyond property and first experience on Serengeti safari, and we were absolutely blown away. From our incredibly talented and lovely guide Felix, to our darling, exceptional butler Christian, to all of the fantastic staff we met during our stay, each and every person here made us feel like family. The service was beyond all expectations, with 5 star gourmet meals cooked in a small barbecue tent under headlamp light (I cannot talk highly enough about the exceptional meals and how talented the chefs are to curate such incredible plates in this type of setup!).

This camp was pure luxury in the bush with flush toilets and an outside shower. It's hard to even call it a tented camp, given the amenities and the service. We had a personal butler who escorted us in the dark, provided us with coffee in the morning and made sure we had enough hot water to bathe. We ate dinner under the milky way on China and crystal. We saw three wildebeest river crossings and a host of other African animals. This is a must do.
