A private affair in Western Serengeti

Set in the remote Western Serengeti on a by-water of the Grumeti River, known for its dramatic wildebeest crossings and enormous Nile crocodiles. Tucked into a strip of riverine forest in the exclusive Grumeti Game Reserve, you can thrill to the antics of the spectacular pied colobus monkeys, found nowhere else in the Serengeti. &Beyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge is a lavish, well-designed permanent camp by the Grumeti river where you can see an abundance of wildlife right from your own viewing deck. There’s a dreamy in-camp swimming pool overlooking the river where hippos playfully displaying their affection toward their youngling. You may even catch a crocodile slowly moving towards a deer that’s drinking from the river. The wild doesn’t become much more enthralling!

Intimate guest areas include open-fronted sitting and dining areas, as well as a domed bar, all adorned with beaded artefacts. The meals are delicious (thanks to Noella and her kitchen staff) and can be enjoyed on an extensive deck with beautiful views towards the river. Or in the African boma, where traditional fires known as jikos and outdoor ovens produce mouth-watering aromas, while the singing and dancing of the of the charming staff will surely put a smile on your lips.

There is an atmosphere of hedonism and serenity inside the camp, one will instantly feel upon arrival. The spacious and delightfully colourful tented suites with outdoor showers and Wi-Fi are shaded by tall evergreen trees. After an exhilarating day, crispy linens and a soft double bed embrace your weary body. Lay down and listen to hippos honking, nocturnal wildlife emerging from their hiding places and the sweet evening breeze rustling through the leaves.

Activities at &Beyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge

From &Beyond Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp you can explore the rich diversity of the surrounding area on guided game drive. You will probably bump into large lion prides, clans of hyena (up to a hundred strong!), and the great herds of Tanzania’s annual Great Migration. All the wonderful guides at the camp are committed to the area and the original inhabitants (read: the animals). It will surprise you how many of the animals in the area they are familiar with and who they follow daily, always careful not to interfere with the natural habitats. During a game drive, they will go that extra mile to find that special animal on your bucket list. Together with their knowledge and amazing bush stories, every game activity is one you won’t forget. Especially with a cold cocktail in your hand, watching the hippo’s splash around as the sun is setting—Africa doesn’t get much better than this.

Apart from the game drives, &Beyond Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp has much more to offer; float above the Serengeti in a hot-air balloon, specialised photograph tour where you will try to capture the essence of the Great Migration with your camera. Or explore other parts of Tanzania and visit the wondrous Lake Victoria. Offering a gloriously diverse range of exciting things to do, you have a full day, at your leisure, to engage with thrilling wildlife, embark on an exciting fishing Serengeti safari in a traditional canoe, and catch your own scrumptious giant Nile perch for dinner, or stroll along the lakeshore marvelling at the beautiful expanse. Please note that some of these experiences will have to be pre-booked.

We stayed here for 3 nights in no. 10 lodge. Our lodge was amazing - just metres above the river where hundreds of Hippos wallowed & grunted. If you are a light sleeper that might not be the room for you. Our room was very large, clean & comfortable with a king size bed and mosquito net. We loved the outdoor shower. All inclusive gourmet dining with a wide selection of wine & spirits. Food was beautifully presented & delicious. Multiple exciting game drives each day from the lodge. Free Wifi with good reception at the lounge area. The dining area also overlooked the river where hippos entered and left the river. Free daily laundry service which is a bonus. All staff were very friendly & attentive service.
